Martha, Martha

We're looking forward to hosting Thanksgiving for the first time in the Rose home this year. Our guests have been invited and the menu has been planned....I'll even go so far as to iron table linens and polish silver...But a girl has her limits.
I made the mistake of buying Martha Stewart's Holiday magazine for some holiday "inspiration". I know, I know, what was I thinking? There were tons of amazing ideas in the magazine including these darling little hand-made turkeys that hold a place card in their beak. When I first saw them, I just knew they would be the piece de resistance to our holiday table. I had visions of spending time in the craft room with my girls, happily assembling each one. The proud looks on their faces as everyone admired their handiwork.
Now, some might shy away after considering there are 29 items on the materials list. Including making your own pompoms. Who knew? Surprisingly, this didn't intimidate me. Not yet, anyway. So I made my very long list and Kayla and I drove to the craft store. An hour later, we were beginning to feel overwhelmed as we searched the aisles for items we've never heard of. Finally, we had all our items and proceeded to check out.
Let's just say I wasn't paying attention. But some things are well worth sixty bucks, and some things are NOT!!! So the moral of the story is....use basic math skills before placing items into a shopping cart....and in my case, avoid taking on Martha Stewart inspired projects during the holiday season!

This made me laugh right out loud! But I have to ask, is the picture of the ones you made, or Martha? Because dang...they really are cute! She must have had a lot of time on her hands when she was locked up. And just think, for $60 you could have gotten some really cute napkin rings and napkins at Pier One. And maybe more. :) Oh, and did you ever read the issue, long ago, when Martha suggested ideas for a spring garden party? One of them was making lilac necklaces by stringing lilac blooms on fishwire. This has to be the stupidest thing I've ever heard of..because everyone knows that lilac blooms will wilt within 10 minutes once detached from the actual branch. "Welcome to my garden party! Here are some dried up little purple boogers on a string for you to wear around your neck!" Martha, Martha.

Oh, no, those are Martha's turkeys all the way! See, she didn't stop at the turkeys...she also made the coordinating basket full of pumpkins. And her turkeys boast three different sizes of hand made pompoms in six different shades of wool yarn. I could go on and on about this but the whole idea has me breaking into a cold sweat.
I didn't see that old issue but I have been wanting to host a spring garden party! Not even kidding. Without the purple booger necklaces, that is!
